I have a strong background in finance that I have continually developed to expand my knowledge and gain more experience.

 

2001 to 2005 – Arcadia Group, London – Finance Analyst

I was lucky enough to begin my career in a graduate position with what was one of the largest retail groups in the UK. It was a great introduction to the fast-paced world of commercial finance.

 

2005 to 2016 – Mole Valley Farmers, Devon – Retail Financial Controller

An opportunity arose to return to my home county of Devon and I took up an exciting, newly created retail finance role. During my time here the company grew significantly and so did my experience and knowledge.

Key events and achievements included:

  • Creating and developing a finance team and reporting framework to service the retail business
  • Creating strong relationships with all commercial departments including operations, procurement, marketing and distribution
  • Implementing a robust budgeting and forecasting process
  • Assisting in the acquisition of four businesses and managing the integration of their processes and finance teams
  • Producing profit projections and forecast models to assist the strategic decision-making process, including acquisitions and branch developments
  • Being part of the project management team for numerous branch developments and being responsible for keeping projects within budget
  • Training and development of both finance and non-finance employees

 

2016 to 2021 – RGB Building Supplies, Devon – Head of Finance/Finance Director

To expand my experience, I took up a role which developed my knowledge of the wider group finance function.

Key events and achievements included:

  • Supported, coached and developed members of the finance team both in terms of day-to-day responsibilities and professional qualifications
  • Developed the financial reporting structure to improve clarity and timeliness of information
  • Provided forecasts and projections to support decision making at a senior level
  • Managed the company debt positions, including monitoring and reviewing the banking covenants
  • Managed and coordinated the annual audit and production of statutory accounts
  • Managed and worked with Systems Development Manager to review, improve and document internal processes
  • Developed strong relationships with all key partners including auditors, corporate financial and tax advisors, the bank, insurance brokers and lawyers
  • Took part in the review and selection of a new banking partner including the refinancing of the business, and the successful management of the switch
  • Part of the team that carried out a full and successful upgrade of all IT systems within the business including point of sale, stock management and financial ledgers
  • Provided comprehensive financial and legal due diligence as part of the business acquisition

 

I am a member of the Chartered Institute of Management Accountants.

What I always liked about Rachel was her attention to detail, tenacity, and accuracy in all that she did; so important for me from the FD. An added benefit was her outgoing personality and ability to relate and communicate at all levels.
